Tourist Guides are often one of the first people to welcome tourists and the last to bid them farewell, therefore playing a pivotal role in enhancing visitors' experiences and being an ambassador for South Africa as a tourist destination.

Tourist Guiding is a very critical component of the tourism value chain. They play an essential role in ensuring repeat tourist visitation to South Africa by creating a positive image of our country.


On completion of your course, you will be able to specialise in one of the following fields:

  • Adventure Guides – rock climbing, paddling, abseiling, etc.
  • Nature Guides – Game Reserves, National Parks, nature conservation areas, trails, etc.
  • Cultural Guides - museums, communities, wine farms, town or city guiding.

  • Minimum Grade 11 / NQF Level 3 –Maths / Maths Literacy and English

Duration & payment terms

Tourist Guiding Excluding Cabin Crew Licencing
10 months
Total cost: R30 000 (broken down as per below)
Registration: R1 000 (due prior to course commencing)
Deposit: R3 800 (payable on or before the course commences)
Thereafter R2 800 x 9 months, with the first instalment due by the end of the commencing month
Tourist Guiding Including Cabin Crew Licencing
12 months
Total cost: R45 000 (broken down as per below)
Registration: R1 000 (due prior to course commencing)
Deposit: R3 300 (payable on or before the course commences)
Thereafter R3 700 x 11 months, with the first instalment due by the end of the commencing month
